What we collect

When you use FishFactor, we store the information you give us: your email, display name, optional avatar and home state, the catches, trips, and gear you log, photos you upload, GPS coordinates you attach to catches, your fishing license details (if you add them), and any comments or messages you send.

How we use it

Your data powers the features of the app: your personal fishing log, community feed, hotspot map, species insights, meetups, and messaging. Aggregated, non-identifying catch data is used to surface community hotspots and top lures/species without revealing your identity.

Why each type of data is collected

  • Email address & name — to create and secure your account, sign you in, and let other anglers recognize you in the community.
  • Photos — to display your catches and meetups. If you use photo analysis, the image is sent to our AI provider solely to estimate species, length, and weight; it is not used to train models.
  • Location (GPS) — only when you tap to capture it, to tag a catch and to build anonymous community hotspots. Exact coordinates are never shown to others unless you choose the "Exact" visibility setting.
  • Catch, trip, and gear entries — to power your personal log, stats, leaderboards, and aggregated species/lure insights.
  • Messages and comments — to deliver community and meetup conversations.
  • Fishing license details — stored privately for your own reference only; never shared or shown to other users.
  • Purchase and subscription status — processed by Google Play and RevenueCat to unlock paid features. We never see or store your card details.
  • Diagnostics — basic error and crash information to keep the app stable.

Data sharing

We do not sell your personal data and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers. Data is shared only with the service providers listed below, strictly to operate the app, and only what they need to perform their function.

Security & retention

Data is transmitted over encrypted HTTPS connections and stored in our managed cloud database with row-level access rules so only you (and, where you chose to share, the community) can read your records. We keep your data for as long as your account is active. Deleted catches, photos, and messages are removed from our systems; account deletion removes your profile and associated content.

Children

FishFactor is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

What's public vs private

  • Private by default: license photos and numbers, direct messages, and any catch you mark "Hidden" or "Fuzzy".
  • Visible to the community: catches you log (respecting your per-catch privacy setting), your display name and avatar, meetups you host or attend, and comments you post.
  • You can toggle "Public profile" in Profile settings.

Third-party services

We use Google (for optional sign-in), Google Maps (for the hotspot map), Open-Meteo (weather data for catches), and Lovable Cloud (auth, database, and file storage). Web push notifications, if you enable them, are delivered through your browser's push service.

Your rights

You can edit or delete your catches, gear, trips, comments, and profile at any time. You can permanently delete your account and all associated data from within the app, or at getfishfactor.app/delete-account. You may also email us to request a copy or deletion of your data.
